Movie Review: Titanic 3D

On 29 March, I got an invitation to a special screening of the movie Titanic 3D in 1 Utama!

I assume everyone heard about Titanic as most of us already know the story about it! So I just make it short what I felt after watching it. Well, I knew Titanic about 10 years ago when I was still studying in primary school. At my time, this movie becomes mouth of topic as the storyline was so touching til now those same generation with me still remembered vividly what is the story about! For those who missed out, you should go to the cinema and have a watch!


Plot Summary:

84 years later, a 100-year-old woman named Rose DeWitt Bukater tells the story to her granddaughter Lizzy Calvert, Brock Lovett, Lewis Bodine, Bobby Buell and Anatoly Mikailavich on the Keldysh about her life set in April 10th 1912, on a ship called Titanic when young Rose boards the departing ship with the upper-class passengers and her mother, Ruth DeWitt Bukater, and her fiancé, Caledon Hockley. Meanwhile, a drifter and artist named Jack Dawson and his best friend Fabrizio De Rossi win third-class tickets to the ship in a game. And she explains the whole story from departure until the death of Titanic on its first and last voyage April 15th, 1912 at 2:20 in the morning. Written by Anthony Pereyra

After winning a trip on the RMS Titanic during a dockside card game, American Jack Dawson spots the society girl Rose DeWitt Bukater who is on her way to Philadelphia to marry her rich snob fiancé Caledon Hockley. Rose feels helplessly trapped by her situation and makes her way to the aft deck and thinks of suicide until she is rescued by Jack. Cal is therefore obliged to invite Jack to dine at their first-class table where he suffers through the slights of his snobbish hosts. In return, he spirits Rose off to third-class for an evening of dancing, giving her the time of her life. Deciding to forsake her intended future all together, Rose asks Jack, who has made his living making sketches on the streets of Paris, to draw her in the nude wearing the invaluable blue diamond Cal has given her. Cal finds out and has Jack locked away. Soon afterwards, the ship hits an iceberg and Rose must find Jack while both must run from Cal even as the ship sinks deeper into the freezing water. The freezing waters of the Atlantic filled with desperate people. Hypothermia everywhere. Death fast approaching. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio cling to each other for dear life, knowing there’s little chance they will both survive the night ahead. Jack died eventually because of hypothermia and Rose had to let him go for calling the lifeboat for survival.

When Rose gets saved by one lifeboat that comes back, they take her to the Carpathia with the six saved with Rose and the 700 people saved in the lifeboats. The Carpathia immigration officer asks Rose what her name is and she loved Jack so much she says her name is not Rose DeWitt Bukater, but her name is Rose Dawson. She seen Cal looking for her, but he does not see her, and they never ended up together, her mother, Cal and friends of the family has no choice but to think that she died on the Titanic. But in the crash of 1929, Cal is married, but then he put a pistol in his mouth and committed suicide. Written by Scotty McCoy

James Cameron’s Titanic is a three-hour epic of extreme sentimentality. But this kind of fare has made for some of the most memorable moments cinema goers have ever experienced, and in the case of the film retelling of the most famous ship sinking ever there’s no denying it’s quite an entertaining watch. Just don’t tell anyone I said so.

Be fast, the exhibition is coming to an end soon! (29 April 2012). Entrance ticket is only S20 for single admittance! (I came across the exhibition through Facebook when my friend sharing in photo album, thus I shared it here for anyone who interested to go.)
